FIFA World Cup 2022 Knock Out Stages
The group stage was perhaps more unpredictable than in any previous World Cup. Several teams that were expected to do well, such as Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Cameroon and Uruguay were all eliminated. If anything, the knockout stages provided even more surprises and some very exciting football. Morocco made history by becoming the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final.
During the first two rounds of the group stage at least one match on each day was played at 1300 local time, the hottest part of the day. In the knock-out stage kick-off times were 1500 or 1900 local time, when temperatures were cooler.
The competition ended with a dramatic final that was a showcase for two global superstars, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, and was regarded as the greatest final in living memory.
